Things to Clean as Summer Winds Down

As summer comes to a close, it’s the perfect time to give a little extra attention to the spots in your home that tend to get overlooked. Start with your ceiling fans. They’ve been working hard all season, and a quick dusting will keep you from spreading pollen and dust around once you switch over to heating.
Next, take a look at your window tracks. Over the summer, dirt, pollen, and the occasional bug can build up in these small spaces. A quick vacuum and wipe will keep them operating smoothly and looking fresh. This is also a great time to clean your baseboards—summer dust and pet hair can cling to them, especially in high-traffic areas.
Don’t forget about light fixtures and lamp shades. They quietly collect a surprising amount of dust, and cleaning them can brighten up a room instantly. Finally, give your door mats a refresh. They’ve been catching summer grit for months, and a good shake or wash will prepare them for the heavier use that comes with fall.
A little seasonal touch-up now means a cleaner, fresher home as you head into the cooler months.
